How can independence help tackle age-based wage discrimination?

Westminster still controls the minimum wage and is delivering an economy with low productivity, stagnant wages, and high inequality.

Westminster has the power to set the levels and also what level people can be paid by the age they are. In the UK this sees young people paid less than those 23 and over.

We believe a new approach to work is key to building both a dynamic economy and a just society and that includes fair wages for all ages.

With independence we could create a modernised labour market to deliver improvements to wages and to terms and conditions. With independence  Scotland could set a single rate for the national minimum wage — one that better reflects the cost of living — with no lower rates for younger workers.

With independence a young person in Scotland would have the same minimum wage as everybody else.
